 In a key revelation, former CIA Officer John Kiriakou has said that Al-Qaeda founder Osama bin Laden, who was the most wanted terrorist for the United States after terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, had escaped from Tora Bora hills in the guise of a woman.

In an exclusive interview with ANI, Kiriakou, who was in the CIA for 15 years and was the chief of CIA counterterrorism operations in Pakistan, also said they did not know that the translator for the commander of Central Command was actually an "Al Qaeda operative who had infiltrated the US military".

Kiriakou was answering a query about the United States having cornered Al-Qaeda terrorists in the Tora Bora mountains in Afghanistan after the 9/11 terror attack that killed 3,000 people, and their escape to Pakistan, and the close ties between the US and Pak intelligence.

The US later tracked down Osama bin Laden to Abbottabad, a city in northern Pakistan in May 2011. He was killed on May 2 by United States Special Forces during a raid on his safe house.

The central government has taken another decision. The home ministry’s directive states that Hindus, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, and Parsis from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan who entered India by 31 December 2024, due to religious persecution, will be allowed to live in India even without valid documents.

They will be granted refugee status. They will neither be detained nor deported.

 The Home Ministry’s notification particularly means that non-Muslims from Bangladesh who have moved to West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, or Meghalaya will be allowed to stay even without valid documents or papers.

Later, they will not face difficulties in obtaining citizenship. According to central government data, the number of refugees coming to India from Afghanistan and Pakistan is very few, while the largest number of refugees is Bangladeshi citizens.

This directive can be considered an amendment to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The CAA provided for granting Indian citizenship to non-Muslim citizens of those three neighbouring countries, with the cut-off date for their entry into India set as 31 December 2014.

With the new directive, the cutoff date has been extended by 10 years. Now, non-Muslims from these three countries who enter India up to 31 December 2024 will be able to stay without valid documents.

The Dissent, a Dhaka-based digital news portal, published an investigative report recently on the couple titled, "Bangladeshi Couple Becomes Global Porn Stars, Draws Youth into Industry".

A CID press release said the couple not only produced and published pornographic content online but also encouraged others to join the same platform via social media -- an offence under the country's cybercrime laws.

CID seized various equipment, including mobile phones, SIM cards, cameras and tripods, used in creating pornographic contents.

Both husband and wife also used to promote those contents through different online social media and communication platforms.

According to CID, the couple published their first pornographic video in May 2024 and later published at least 112 videos.

Producing, selling and distributing pornography is a criminal and punishable offence in Bangladesh under the Pornography Control Act, 2012.

 Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize on Friday to the people of Venezuela -- and US President Donald Trump, for his "decisive support" for her country's pro-democracy movement.

"I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support of our cause!" she wrote on X.

"We are on the threshold of victory, and today, more than ever, we count on Donald Trump  the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy," she added.

Machado has been in hiding in Venezuela for the past year since elections that authoritarian leftist President Nicolas Maduro is accused of stealing.

The Nobel Committee cited her "tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy."

Machado, 58, has backed Trump's ongoing campaign of military pressure on Maduro, including a major US naval deployment near Venezuela, as a "necessary measure" towards a democratic transition in Venezuela.

White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt shared Machado's post dedicating her Nobel to Trump on her X account.

Several of Machado's fellow opposition leaders, including two-time former presidential candidate Henrique Capriles, congratulated her on her prize.

"May this recognition be another boost to achieve PEACE and for our Venezuela to leave behind the suffering and recover the freedom and democracy for which it has fought for so many years," Capriles wrote on X.

Israel deports 161 Europeans, including Greta Thunberg to Greece

Greece's foreign ministry said 161 nationals from 16 European countries landed in Athens on Monday after being expelled by Israel for taking part in a Gaza aid flotilla.

Israel on Monday deported more activists who were on the flotilla bound for the devastated Palestinian territory, including Swedish climate campaigner Greta Thunberg.

The 45-vessel flotilla had been aiming to break an Israeli blockade to deliver aid to Gaza, where the United Nations says famine has taken hold after two years of devastating conflict.

According to the Swedish branch of the Global Movement for Gaza, the deported Swedish nationals were on board the flight.

 At Athens International Airport, activists unfurled a huge Palestinian flag in the arrivals hall and chanted "Freedom for Palestine" and "Long live the flotilla!", AFP reporters saw.

The Global Sumud flotilla departed from Barcelona in Spain in early September.

The vessels were boarded by the Israeli navy off Egypt and the Gaza Strip between 1 and 3 October.
